Toyota Land Cruiser 80" & 105" Live axle models

If you have a Toyota Land Cruiser with suspension lift, then you will need a pair of Heavy Duty Control arms.

In order to remove driveline vibration caused by suspension lift, the face of the diff pinion flange and the face of the gearbox output shaft flange need to be parallel. That means both uni joints have exactly the same degree of bend in each. To achieve this, the lower arms need to be longer than standard,

The general rule of thumb is

Std Arms for 0 - 50mm

11mm arms for 50mm liftsand Above

 

The standard arms are no more than 2mm thick steel. They are very light weight, As soon as a slight bend or imperfection is obvious then they are only one good obsatcle from snapping in two, and this will hurt the pocket. When you think about it, the entire driving force that makes the wheels push the car is pushed through these arms.

When a Control arm breaks, It instantly puts huge stress on the other side, In severe cases this can cause both Control arms on your vehicle to snap, Causing the diff roll backwards, pulling out the upper control arms, Brake Lines, Panhard brackets of the diff and chassis, Possible pierce the fuel tank, In short, all sorts of bad, and its normally on the 4pm track at the end of the day. Spend the money once now on Heavy Duty Control arms with rubber bushes.

If it happens, you can’t get towed out as you can’t control the direction of the back wheels - you need a trailer or you fix it in the bush. Not only does this stuff the weekend but can lead to a very expensive repair bill.

A standard control arm weighs 1.6 Kg. These heavy duty control arms weigh 3.5Kg each with a 4mm wall thickness.

Uppers are rarely a problem unless you have a larger lift, In this case we have Adjustable uppers in our store.
