The hammerlock also known as a connecting link is generally used to connect winch recovery hooks to steel cable or synthetice winch rope, It has a cam style pin that runs through the ends of what in a simple term you would call 2 shackles, and joins them together allowing them to rotate.

It is easily assembled and can be disconnected if required. It is made from quenched and tempered alloy steel for high tensile strength and ductility.
