PART TIME KIT
To suit: TOYOTA LANDCRUISER 80 SERIES and AISIN HUB CONVERSION (04/1994 onwards)
Part Time Kit with Aisin hubs and replacement CV joints

Toyota owners looking to run high-quality Aisin hubs on 04/1994 onward full-time 4WD vehicles — this kit solves your problem.

This kit suits 80 Series LandCruisers with the HF2A full-time 4WD transfer case as fitted to all RV, GXL, and Sahara LandCruisers manufactured from 04/1994 onwards.

(See our other listing for the part-time kit spool and Aisin hubs only for 1990 to 3/1994 models — CV joints not required.)

In 04/1994, all full-time 80 Series LandCruisers underwent a manufacturing change to the drive hub-to-CV spline, which does not allow Aisin hubs to be fitted unless the CVs are replaced — which this kit includes.

The kit comes with replacement OEM-quality Japanese CV joints, which are a direct fit to genuine Aisin free-wheeling hubs.

This combination offers a higher-strength free-wheeling hub, waterproofing in the hub selector ring, and overall higher quality than other brands can offer.

This kit suits 80 Series LandCruisers with the HF2A full-time 4WD transfer case as fitted to all RV, GXL, and Sahara LandCruisers manufactured from 1990 onwards.

POSITIVES OF PART TIME KIT

  • Better fuel consumption — minimum improvement of 5%, with some reports of up to 10%

  • Improved steering — vehicle no longer pulls hard when powering out of corners

  • Lighter and more direct steering feel

  • Improved acceleration — vehicle no longer powering an extra diff, driveshaft, and CVs

  • Longer service life on front driveline components due to no longer being driven

Kit Contains:

  • Centre diff spool

  • Koyo transfer case spool bearing

  • 2 x Genuine Aisin Japan free-wheeling hubs

  • Heavy-duty free-wheeling hubs (vehicles built before April 1994 can upgrade to Aisin hubs)

  • 2 x HDK Japan CV joints, rifle-drilled with grease nipple for ease of servicing

  • Fitting instructions

ABS Live Axle Models
When ABS-equipped live axle vehicles are fitted with a part-time 4WD kit, the ABS sensor reading from the CV joint becomes inoperable and the ABS warning light appears on the dash. The ABS relocation kit moves the sensor from the CV joint to the wheel hub and operates as per factory specifications.

See our store for ABS sensor relocation kit if required.

Viscous Centre Diffs
Vehicles with viscous-coupled centre diffs can still use our part-time 4WD kit. To complete the installation, you must purchase the 'Centre Diff Lock' button used on GXL models. The switch is an easy plug-and-play, as the necessary plug and wiring are already in the factory loom.

How does it work?
The centre diff becomes inoperative — spider gears and the rear side gear are removed. The rear spool (supplied in the kit) is manufactured from heat-treated gear steel and internally splined to allow permanent drive to the rear wheels. The front side gear is retained to support the front output shaft in the main housing.

Freewheeling hubs are supplied and fitted to prevent the front diff, axles, and driveshaft from turning while the vehicle is being driven.

What are the benefits?

  • No more steering pull when accelerating out of corners

  • Less wear and tear on steering components (tie rods, steering box)

  • More direct steering feel

  • Improved fuel economy (average 5–10%)

  • Improved acceleration due to reduced drivetrain drag

  • Increased service life for front diff, driveshaft, and CV joints

Can I fit it myself?
Yes, if you are mechanically minded and can follow instructions. The kit comes with full step-by-step fitting instructions. No need to remove the transfer case — just remove the back cover and fit the spool. The hubs are installed as per the hub installation guide. No special tools required. Support is just a phone call away.

What if I can’t fit the kit?
No problem. Any competent mechanical workshop can fit the kit. Or contact our sales team for an installation quote.

How do I engage 4WD once the kit is fitted?
Press the centre diff lock button on the dash, engage the hubs, and select low range.
If your vehicle has a viscous-coupled diff and no centre diff lock button, you will need to fit one. The fitting instructions include a photo and part number so you can purchase it from your local Toyota parts supplier.

How do I know if my vehicle has a viscous coupling?
If your vehicle does not have a centre diff lock button on the dash, it has a viscous coupling.

Do I need to fit a diff lock button with the part-time kit?
Yes — this allows you to select 4WD in high range. The button's part number is in the instructions.

What happens to the viscous coupling in the transfer case?
It is no longer required and is removed.

How does this affect ABS?

  • Live axle models: ABS sensors are on the CV joint. With freewheeling hubs fitted, the CV no longer rotates, affecting the ABS system and triggering a warning light. To prevent this, you can leave the hubs engaged while ABS is needed.
